How Knee Cartilage Damage Is Prevented?

The common injury that most athletes are prone to experience is called meniscus tear or knee cartilage damage.  This is usually cause by traumatic injury in sports or due to the degenerative process in older people who have brittle bones and cartilages. The condition occurs when the knee joint suddenly was bent and twisted resulting to the tear of the cartilage that envelops it.  The meniscus plays a very important role in the health of your knee for it balances the weight of the body applied to the bones in your lower limbs particularly the knee joint.

People who have experience a meniscus tear usually feels pain and inflammation of the knee which are the initial symptoms.  Aside from those, you may experience difficulty to stretch the leg.  This is because of a tear in the cartilage that controls the smooth motion of the knee joint.  Other conditions are the softness when you press the meniscus, clicking within the knee and its limited movement. This injury needs to be treated properly under the supervision of a physician however, if you do not want these things to happen, prevention should be considered.

Here are helpful ways to prevent injury to the knee joint.  Before starting any major activities, do a proper warm up to prepare your body.  This will allow your mind, heart, lungs, muscles and joints ready for the tough activity.  There are guidelines about proper warm up that you can see in the internet that are appropriate for your condition or ask a fitness instructor for tips.  Learning the correct ways to maintain healthy condition of your bones will lessen the chances of bone accidents.

In addition, avoid activities that are too risky and painful to the body. Also, you should give yourself a good rest every after strenuous activity or a recovery time in the interval of workouts or training.  Another thing is to workout the flexibility of your muscles especially the meniscus; daily stretching is essential to keep it in good condition.   Moreover, good footwear makes you walk or run comfortably with your knees rest firmly.  Strapping or taping is another way to provide an extra support to the stability of weak knees.

Identifying the different preventive measures to avoid knee cartilage damage is necessary to maintain your healthy condition.  Consider the various tips provided to see to it that you are helping your bones and muscles to be in good shape.  In case of accidents and injury, consult your physician immediately.  Being aware of knee cartilage damage will help you determine the right actions to treat it.
